Acne, pimples, zits, whatever you want to call them they just seem to be part of growing up! It doesn’t matter how many of those nasty zits you pop, they just keep coming back. What is more acne is not just limited to your face but it can appear on your neck, back, shoulders, chest and even your upper arms! You may think that zits are just a teenage thing but that isn’t true. Your parents can even get them! There is good news in all of this – you will at some point in time grow out of getting zits.

Acne can show up as blackheads, whiteheads and painful bumps called cysts. Zits usually make their presence known at puberty when hormone production really starts to increase. The skin’s oil glands get bigger in spots where acne is common. Cells that are in close proximity to the openings of the oil glands block the opening and you get a buildup of oil under the skin. Bacteria have a feast on this oil, multiply and cause red, swollen little bumps that are pus-filled. This is how the average zit is born.

The good news is that studies have shown that there is no connection between zits and eating junk food like chocolate and fried and greasy foods. However, if you begin eating healthy and stocking up on fruits and veggies, this can hasten the clearing up of your skin.

Have a zit attack does not have anything to do with poor hygiene. It is not caused by dirt, and if you scrub your face really hard you will only make your zits worse. The best thing to do is to gently wash your face with some sort of mild soap such as Cetaphil and then carefully pat your skin until it is dry.

Some people feel that Pantothenic Acid or Vitamin B5 works well for a zit attack. There may be side effects to this so be careful how you use it.

Accutane is another remedy for zits that can be tried. Many people have been happy with the results from using this product.

If a person has a zit breakout on their face, it would be a good idea to change their pillowcase every day. You can even sleep on a folded towel. Also, use a clean dry washcloth to dry your face after washing it.

One thing you should always do is to use a hot compress and hold it against your face for a few minutes before you try to extract a zit. Do not touch a pimple without first softening it up with a hot washcloth first!

Do not let anyone pop a pimple on your face. Consider them your arch-enemy! It will aggravate your problems severely and you will find that even more zits have appeared in place of the one that was popped!

If all else fails with your zit attack, then seek the advice of a dermatologist. He or she can give you some good advice and prescribe an adequate treatment for your zits. You will be well on your way to being zit free!

Teen years and acne breakouts seem to go hand in hand and, let’s face it, we all get breakouts from time to time. No matter if you just have an occasional pimple here or there or your acne breakouts are as regular as clockwork, the products listed below will help you to take control of the situation. Some of these products are used as preventative measures and need to be used regularly, while the others are only spot treatments and need only be used when a pimple actually appears. Here are your ten best weapons in the war against acne!

Astara Blue Flame Purification Mask – This product help clear up existing acne and also helps to prevent future breakouts. It has a gently lavender scent which acts as an aromatherapy treatment for any stress that you may be under. Since you have to let the mask dry for about 10-15 minutes, it gives you a chance to unwind.

PhytoMe Acne Gel – This non-drying formula helps soothe the skin without causing any further irritation. This product is capable of handling very stubborn breakouts. The analgesic properties of the Arnica help fight pain related to acne. PhytoMe Acne Gel is able to deal with whiteheads, pustules and blackheads.

Neutrogena Cooling Gel Mask – This mask’s purpose is to clean out pores so it shouldn’t be expected to clear acne. When this product is used regularly, it helps control the breakouts that are related to clogged pores.

Acne Dry Spot – This product has been found to shrink blemishes while you sleep. All you have to do is dab it onto any affected areas before going to bed and when you wake up you will notice clearer skin.

Biore Blemish Bomb – This is also an overnight treatment that works like an acne patch. You put it on as a liquid, but it dries to form a protective seal around your zits. While the zits are sealed up, the ingredients in the “bomb” shrink the pimple. When the patch is peeled away in the morning, you will see a much smaller zit.

pHisoderm 4-Way Daily Acne Cleanser – This is an excellent cleaner, toner and acne fighter. If you used this product twice a day, it will clear up your skin in a matter of weeks.

DDF BP Gel 5% with Tea Tree Oil – This is a unique and effective product. The tea tree oil acts as an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent and the benzoyl peroxide destroys blemishes and fights off new breakouts.

Derma Clear – This skin care product will clean, clear and rejuvenate your skin in less than a week when used continuously. This product is not supposed to be used as a spot treatment for sudden flare ups, but it does reduce the incidence of breakouts.

Clinique Acne Solutions Emergency Gel Lotion – This acne product helps clear up stubborn, recurring blemishes. It unclogs bacteria-filled pores, controls the oil and reduces redness.

DDF Pumice Acne Scrub – This is a great cleanser and exfoliant that fights acne flare ups but helps to eliminate razor bumps. You should use this product twice a week as well as your daily cleanser. With regular use, you will soon have a clean, clear face.

It is sometimes quite overwhelming to try to find an effective treatment for acne these days. There is a vast array of acne products on the market. Some of them may be very expensive on your pocketbook! What works for one person may not necessarily work on another as every person is individualistic. Here are ten of the top acne products that are on the market today:

Accutane Acne Treatment – This is also known as Isotretinoin. It is a very powerful prescription medication that is used to treat acne. When you use Accutane for approximately four or five months, you may often find that your acne has cleared up. This may continue for about a year after stopping the use of Accutane.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion – When you have a chance to use this lotion, pimples don’t stand a chance against it. This is a highly effective drying lotion that has a rapidly expanding user base. All you have to do is dip a Q-tip into this liquid and dab it on the pimple before bedtime.

Neutrogena Multi-Vitamin Acne Treatment – One of the worst mistakes that teenagers make is that they become too aggressive when they go to treat acne breakouts. If you use a harsh drying product to battle your blemishes, you can actually ad fuel to the fire! Neutrogena Multi-Vitamin Acne Treatment is an acne solution that helps to prevent breakouts while at the time it nourishes the skin. Salicylic acid is an ingredient which treats your pimples, the natural fruit acids exfoliate and improve you skin’s texture while the vitamins help nourish and protect you skin with moisture. When you use this treatment on a daily basis, it will help to get your breakouts under control while improving your skin’s clarity.

Murad Acne Complex Kit – This is a kit for skin types that are prone to acne. It consists of Dr. Murad’s Acne-Prone Skin Formula, Skin Perfecting Lotion, Clarifying Cleanser and Acne Management.

Clinique Acne Solutions Night Treatment Gel – This acne product claims to work quietly and gently while you sleep. It attacks the acne you see while it prevents the acne you do not see. This product reduces discomfort and redness and discourages the skin’s oily output.

Serious Skin Care Dry Lo – This acne product claims to be an acne medication that contains 8% colloidal sulfur that is designed to control acne points or isolated pimples. All you have to do is dip a cotton swab into the heavy sediment on the bottom of the bottle and apply it to your pimples.

Metro Gel Adult Acne Treatment – This acne product is a medicated prescription that treats acne rosacea or adult acne. This product may decrease the redness and the number of sores but it may not be a cure.

Avon Clearskin Overnight Treatment – This is a lotion that contains glycolic and salicylic acids, nurturing botanicals and antioxidants. It is dermatologist tested and seems to reduce marks from past blemishes.

Origins Spot Remover – This is an acne product that contains salicylic acid that speeds up the healing process and reduces the redness of pimples. Oregano and Clove Buds help to clear up your skin.

Back acne or “bacne”, as it is commonly called, come in every size and form of acne. It ranges in mild forms such as whiteheads all the way to serious forms of acne which include cystic acne. It can also consist of blackheads, pimples and pustules. The age range for people who may be susceptible to “bacne” is from 10 to 40 years of age and beyond.

As far as back acne goes, there is no one culprit that is the cause of it. It seems that back acne begins happening around puberty when the oil glands begin functioning more rapidly. Androgens, which is a hormone group found in both sexes, get overactive and in turn this causes the oil glands to make extra oil. The oil glands are located just below the skin’s surface. When an overabundance of oil is produced, the pores of the skin and the hair follicles become clogged. The clogs further obstruct the way that dead cells escape from the skin, and these result in the hair follicle becoming clogged with oil and dead cells. This attracts bacteria and thus results in the formation of acne.

There are some subtle differences between “bacne” and acne that is found elsewhere on the body. Back acne is not generally caused by genetics as other regular acnes are. It is more than likely caused by a person’s particular body type or by their personal genetic make up. Food also does not contribute to flare ups of back acne.

Back acne does not have to be limited to a person’s back but can be found on any body part. It may be caused by some things such as wearing tight clothing or carrying a heavy backpack. It is much easier to treat “bacne” than it is to prevent it. It is easier to use strong topical treatments on back acne as the skin on the back is much thicker than anywhere else.

In order to treat back acne, a “bacne” regimen can be followed. These products can be found in most of the drug stores and superstores here in the United Sates. To get started, you will need to get a mild cleanser, have plenty of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide on hand as well as a good moisturizer. Here are the steps you should take:

1. Gently wash the area with a mild cleaner and let it dry.
2. Apply alphy hydroxyl lotion and wait for that to dry.
3. Generously apply the benzoyl peroxide.
4. Apply the moisturizer if it is needed.

It should be noted that benzoyl peroxide will bleach fabric. If you are going to be using this Regimen on the back, you will have to wear white.

There are many successful treatments available. If you do a Google search you will be able to find other successful treatments for back acne.

Acne rosacea is a disorder of the skin that leads to pimples and redness on the forehead, nose, chin and cheekbones. It can appear to be a lot like acne except without the presence of blackheads. Approximately one out of every 20 Americans suffers with acne rosacea. It is commonly seen in white females who are in the 30 to 60 year-old age category. When it is seen in men, it can be worse. People who are fair-skinned and who flush readily seem more likely to have acne rosacea.

Rosacea can become steadily worse in those who are afflicted with it. It is now thought that the cause of acne rosacea lies in a person’s likelihood to flush with sun damage. Sun is thought to damage the tiny blood veins that lie just beneath the skin’s surface. When flushing occurs, the damaged veins leak, and this results in red blotchy areas. Eventually this can become a permanent condition.

The habits and lifestyle of a person may be the skin’s worst enemy. The more veins a person has near his skin’s surface, the more likely he is to flush and to stay flushed.

Certain triggers of flushing include the following: spicy food, regular consumption of hot liquids, alcohol, mental and physical stress, too many prescription steroids, weather extremes, harsh soaps, hot baths and exfoliating creams. If a person can control the flushing, then more than likely the acne rosacea can be controlled sometimes without the need for medication.

Treatment of acne rosacea includes avoiding things that make a person flush and any known causes of flare-ups. Getting too warm seems to be common in those who suffer from acne rosacea. It is best to stay away from hot showers, overly warm environments, saunas and extremes of weather such as cold, humidity and strong winds.

Foods are thought to be inconsistent triggers and most foods bother only about a third of rosacea patients. These include such things as vinegar, sour cream, yogurt, dry cheeses, yeast extract and soy sauce. Certain fruits and vegetables can be culprits such as eggplant, spinach, avocados, broad leaf beans and pods, citrus fruits, bananas, raisins, tomatoes, red plums and figs. Some people may need to avoid hot spicy food, vanilla, liver and chocolate. Other factors may include prescription drugs such as topical steroids and vasodilators, alcohol, chronic coughing, menopausal flushing and emotional anxiety and stress.

Treating acne rosacea will in most instances control it. It may be entirely possible to control its symptoms and prevent it from worsening. Rosacea will usually return in most people in weeks or months after ceasing treatment unless a person has effectively stopped all factors that trigger it.

The most effective treatments available today are tetracycline taken orally and other similar antibiotic and low-dose oral Accutane. Mild cases of acne rosacea can be controlled by creams and gels such as Metrogel, Azelex, Cleocin-T or sulfa.

Makeup can usually help with rosacea and will not make it worse. Even some men who suffer from this form of acne can wear a bit. For some women, hormone replace medications may be advised to help with hot flashes during menopause.

A number advances to find effective treatments for acne rosacea have been made these last few years.

Blackheads are just a little bit different than the zits you are usually used to seeing. They are made up of the same oil as are pimples. Blackheads result due to a building up of this oil in the skin’s pores. The difference in appearance between a blackhead and an ordinary pimple is that when it is exposed to the air, it turns to its characteristic color, that is, black. Many of us have them on our noses which is a particularly oily part of our body.

Blackheads can be easily covered up by makeup and are less offensive to the sufferer. You may think that squeezing the blackhead is the best way to get rid of it, but that is not the case. What is the best way to banish these pesky critters from our lives for good? Here are some tips for removing them.

If you happen to be one of many thousands of people who are trying to figure out a way to remove blackheads, let’s pause for a moment. You do not want to go rushing into something that may cause further damage to your skin. Blackheads are indeed horrible things that need to be swiftly dealt with.

Blackheads always hide deep in our pores and make it very painful to get them out. Many people just go with the simple pinch and squeeze technique. This may get rid of some of your blackheads, but it is in no way a permanent fix. The problem with this technique is the damage that is caused by the pressure that you have to apply when you are pinching the blackhead.

When you squeeze and pinch, it can lead to some broken blood vessels around you nose, and that is not a pretty sight either. One of the most popular things to use now to remove blackheads is the Biore strip which has become very popular. People seem to buy these strips up like hotcakes!

These adhesive strips do end up pulling out about 50% of your blackheads, but there is also a warning that accompanies these strips. It has to do with the product’s harshness. If you have ever used one of these strips, then you know what I am talking about. These powerful strips can irritate delicate skin and thus produce even more irritation. That only brings more of these unsightly blackheads.

Hopefully, you have a better understanding of what blackheads are and how to remove them.

At one time or another almost everyone encounters acne. When one is faced with a major breakout, they will try anything to just have a clear, normal complexion just like everyone else. In sheer desperation, acne sufferers will try almost anything to get rid of those embarrassing zits!

It is very easy to go into a supermarket or your local pharmacy and choose from a vast array of medications that treat acne. However, sometimes it takes several weeks for these lotions and creams to produce the desired results. There are several home solutions and herbal remedies that promise fast relief from skin blemishes and pimples. Most of these products can be found in your kitchen or in your bathroom cabinet and do not cost an arm and a leg to try. None of these remedies have been approved by the FDA or have passed clinical trials so they must be used with care.

One remedy that claims to give relief from acne overnight is to apply cotton balls soaked in warm salt water after you slit the pimple open. Another home remedy involves the using honey. Apply it to the affected area and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse your face and then apply toothpaste and leave it on overnight. When you wake up in the morning your pimples are supposed to be gone.

Here is a home remedy that uses egg white. Apply it to the affected areas and leave it on overnight. You may need to repeat this procedure several times to achieve the desired results. Using a combination of egg white and lemon juice seems to be effective in curing acne as well as healing skin blemishes. For some people they have used cotton balls that were soaked in vinegar and then applied strawberry leaves to their pimples.

There are some home remedies that make use of facial masks. Cornmeal and oatmeal pastes in water have been recommended as well as using mashed bananas blended with 1 tablespoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of sour cream. Cucumber pastes with such additions like yogurt, honey and strawberries promise to remove skin blemishes. Some people have used a combination of eggs, powdered almonds and eggs and still others have mixed up a concoction of tomatoes, lemon juice and honey.

You need to be careful when experimenting with different home remedies for acne because different types of skin react to ingredients in different ways. It is best to talk to a physician or a skin care specialist before embarking on this road.

Here are few of the herbal remedies for acne:

Neem (Azadirachta indica) – This is a very powerful blood purifier and detoxifier. Neem is used for the maintenance of healthy skin. It is also used for external use in skin diseases.

Haemafine Syrup – This herbal remedy is for all kinds of skin diseases through the purification of the blood. It gives your skin a natural glow and improves the complexion. It is an ultimate cure for eczema, pimples, acne and nose bleeding.

Shuddha Guggul Capsules (Commiphora mukul) – This is a very famous herb in Ayurvedic medicine. This herb is able to both purify and rejuvenate. It can cure skin rashes, eczema and other skin problems.
You have been introduced to some of the most common home remedies and herbal cures for acne. It is always best to proceed slowly with home cures. What works for one person will not necessarily work for another.

Usually acne is just annoying and troublesome and at times it can be downright embarrassing. However, there are some severe forms of acne that may lead to the scarring and pitting of one’s skin. One of these severe forms of acne is called cystic acne. It is important that a person seek treatment for this at once.

Cystic acne is so named because pus filled cysts appear and these can lead to scarring, pitting and other serious complications. In many cases of cystic acne, the cyst appears similar to an acne nodule except that it is filled with pus and measures at least 5 millimeters across.

These cysts can be unsightly, lead to serious scarring and can also be quite painful. It is very important for those who suffer from this type of acne never to squeeze the acne cyst as this could cause the infection to travel down deeper. It is better just to leave the cyst alone and let it heal naturally.

If someone thinks they are suffering from cystic acne, then they should be checked out by a dermatologist. He or she will be able to diagnose what type of acne it is and recommend the most effective treatment.

There are a wide variety of over the counter products that are designed to treat all forms of acne, and some of these products can successfully treat severe forms of acne. If these do not seem to do the job, then there are prescription medications that can be used in the treatment of cystic acne. Again, your dermatologist can suggest the appropriate treatment for your particular skin type and kind of acne.

There are some non-preventable causes of cystic acne and they include the following:

• Genetics – If acne tends to run in the family, then a person is more likely to get it.

• Hormones – When a person reaches adolescence, the body begins to produce androgens which in turn stimulate oil production. This build-up of oil can clog pores which can lead to acne. Birth control pills and the menstrual cycle can also aggravate acne because they both entail hormonal changes.

Here are some preventable causes of cystic acne:

• Stress – This has not been proven to be a cause of cystic acne. However, any form of physical and emotional stress can aggravate acne.

• Washing too often or using harsh cleaners – Some people feel that washing more often and keeping the skin cleaner will reduce acne breakouts. If you treat your skin harshly, it can aggravate breakouts.

• Using oily skin care products and greasy cosmetics – These products can lead to the clogging of pores and oil ducts in the skin, thus leading to acne.

• Medications – There are many medications on the market which lists acne as a possible side effect. Be sure to check the product literature to see if this is the case. If it is, then try to choose another medication.

• Squeezing a pimple – Try not to give in to the temptation to squeeze a whitehead or a pimple. This can lead to bacteria entering the skin which can make acne worse. Squeezing pimples can also lead to scars and they are permanent.

• Diet – It is not quite clear whether diet can either cause acne or make it worse. Some people do have sensitivities to certain foods which can cause acne.

No one really understands why but follicles which are also called pores often get blocked. Oil, or sebum, normally drains to the surface but somehow it gets blocked and then bacteria start to grow. Both blackheads and whiteheads begin as microcomedones.

When the trapped oil and bacteria stay below the surface of the skin, a whitehead is formed. They may show up as tiny little white spots, or they may be so tiny that they are actually invisible to the naked eye.

A blackhead forms a little differently. This occurs when the trapped oil and bacteria become partially open to the skin’s surface, and then they turn black due to melanin which is the skin’s pigment. This is not dirt so no matter how much you wash, it will not get rid of them. Blackheads can last for quite some time because the contents of oil and bacteria slowly drain to the surface.

A whitehead or blackhead can sometimes release its contents to the skin’s surface and heal. Then again, the follicle wall can sometimes rupture and inflammatory acne can occur. This rupture can be caused randomly or else by touching or picking the skin. This is why you should refrain from picking your pimples!

When a break in the follicular wall occurs, a papule is formed. White blood cells then rush in and the pores then become inflamed. When the white blood cells finally make their way to the skin’s surface, a pustule forms. It may take several days for one of these pustules to form. People usually refer to these pustules as “zits” or “pimples”.

Sometimes an inflamed lesion can completely explode or collapse. This causes severe inflammation of the surrounding skin. These lesions are called cysts or nodules.

Now that we know what pimples are and how they are formed, what are some effective treatments?

If you happen to treat yourself with over-the-counter medications, then choose them carefully. What works for a friend of yours may not necessarily work for you. Every person’s skin is different.

The first choice for treating pimples is the use of topical medications. Benzoyl Peroxide is just about the most popular medication. Other products that are used in the treatment of pimples are Salicylic Acid, Alcohol and Acetone, Resorcinol and Sulphur, Topical Antibiotics, Azelaic Acid, Nicotinamide and Topical Retinoids.

Remember, that you do not have to suffer with this affliction these days. There is bound to be something out there that will work for you!

It seems that you get double punishment when you are face with acne scars. First, it was bad enough that you had to contend with those unsightly pimples. You now have those scars as a constant reminder!
Is there something that can be done?

In order to understand the scars, you first have to understand acne. Acne occurs when the hair follicles of the skin become plugged with dead skin cells and oil. This becomes the perfect breeding ground for bacteria to grow and make those red bumps that are sometimes pus-filled which are commonly called pimples.

There are different forms of acne: mild acne, moderately severe acne, and severe acne. When someone has the severest form of acne, the nodules are more apt to leave permanent scars. If you happen to have this severe form of acne and have these nodules, it would be wise to see a skin specialist for treatment.

If you have had previous bouts of severe acne that left you with serious scarring, there are a few things that can be done. One type of treatment is called laser resurfacing that can be done right in the dermatologist’s office. The laser takes off the damaged uppermost skin layer and leaves your skin much smoother. When this procedure is done, it take about three to ten days for the skin to completely heal.

Another treatment that can be used for scarring from acne is dermabrasion. A rotating wire brush or a spinning diamond instrument is used to wear down the skin’s surface. As the skin heals, a new, smooth layer takes the place of the scarred layer of skin. It usually takes anywhere from 10 days to 3 weeks for someone’s skin to heal after a derabrasion treatment.

A very new type of treatment for scarring from acne is known as fractional laser therapy. This form of treatment works at a much deeper level than either the laser resurfacing or dermabrasion. This procedure is very expensive and insurance does not usually cover the cost.

Prior to having any treatments done, a person will have to have his or her acne under control.

Depending upon how severe the scars from acne are, the dermatologist may recommend a chemical peel or a microdermabrasion. This will help improve the looks of any scarred areas. These treatments can usually be done in the office.
Doctors may sometimes inject material under the scar in order to raise it to the level of a person’s normal skin. If someone has deeply indented scars, surgery may be recommended.

If you have acne scars, the last thing you want to do to your face is ply it with fancy lotions or masks. These certainly will not help. In face, they might irritate your skin even more and make the scars reddish and more noticeable.

Remember that the best thing you can do for your skin is to leave it alone. You should never try to pop angry looking pimples as it will just make matters worse. All things take time to heal and pimples are no exception. If you are one of the unfortunate ones that have severe acne scarring, take courage because there are treatments available.
